The Hidden Web
The internet is so big it's sometimes overwhelming. According to World Wide Websize, there are over 1.8 billion websites that have been indexed. Dig a little deeper and we find that there are levels to the internet.
Surface web is anything that can be indexed by a typical search engine such as Google. Which according to some experts is around 4% of the actual Internet. https://techlog360.com/darknet-vs-dark-web-vs-deep-web-vs-surface-web/
The Deep web refers to data that is stored in website databases. Content that is not available by clicking on a link. Information you can find by searching through a website, such as a Government database or library. This is estimated to be 400-500 times the size of the Surface web. http://bigdata2.brightplanet.com/your-guide-to-the-deep-web
The Dark web or dark net is designed specifically for annonymity and can only be access through private networks such as the Tor browser. It cannot be accessed by a search engine and typically hosts large scale illegal activity.
But as the Internet grows we are continually gravitating to the same sources. Facebook, Google, Amazon and Apple enjoy most of our attention online.
For this post there are a few requirements.
1) Knowledge: Research and tell us a little about one important figure from the history of the Internet. Please read comments before you post and do not repeat the same person. Give us a little detail about what their contributions were.
2) Comprehension: Describe the one difference between the pre and post Internet world and compare the positives and negatives from your point of view.
3) Application: go here and find a website that is interesting to you. https://www.reddit.com/r/InternetIsBeautiful/ Why did you pick it? Include a link.

1. Before 1989 people would have there laptops and computer hooked to the main box or router. Barry Shien changed this by introducing The World ftom above he created the first commercially available internet service provider in 1989, which allowed dial-up access to the information superhighway above.
ReplyDelete2. Before the internet you could rome arounf the world freely without anyone knowing you. People have normal conversations instead of just being on there phone. People would look things up in books, etc. Now after the internet anyone can search you up if your identity isnt protected. People just sit around on there phones and dont have face to face conversations. And everything is on the internent so there no need for books or dictionary’s. Yet a positive veiw of this is that everything is at our hands and theres no need to do more than you want to. When your not with your friends you can talk to them on the phone or facetime.
3. I picked http://dinosaurpictures.org/ancient-earth#240 . i picked this because i thought it was so cool how you can see how the earth looked 750 billion years ago and its so diffrent from today.
Raymond Tomlinson is a very important person in internet history. He is credited for inventing emails. Tomlinson had the idea to personally communicate to other individuals on the internet, so he went and created emails as part of the program “ARPANET”. The first email ever was sent by Ray in 1971 to himself. His contribution of emails to the internet world also led him to work with others to develop an email transport agent to send emails from machine to machine.
ReplyDeleteThe one major difference between the pre and post internet world is the way we socially connect to each other. Pre internet, you had to go out and communicate with people face to face. Now you can socialize with anyone from anywhere. The positive factors are how you can socialize without having to go out and you also have platforms to meet new people. However, the biggest negative factor is that today’s generation is lacking in socialization skills in the world. People rather look at their phones or computer than actually go out and enjoy life outside. I think it’s bad in a way because, communication skills are deteriorating. However, the internet has revolutionized and helped our lives in many ways.

It also gives you information about nuclear fallout and radiation, which I love.
It all started of with the computer. In 1613 they first recorded the word "computer". but the computer in 1613 was not like the ones we have now, it had no monitor or key board, the computer was just a big machine which weighed 27 tons and was approximately 8 feet by 3 feet by 100 feet. It covered 1800 squares of space, it remained like this till the 19th century. the first freely programed computer was invented in 1936 originally by Konrad Zuse in his own parents lounge room.
ReplyDeleteVint Cerf is a computer scientist from America. He is know for being on of the "fathers of the internet". him and a couple of other are the co-designers of the internet. From 1994-2005 Vint was a senior vice president at MCI, and he was also the vice president of the corporation for national research initiatives. Vint had a key part during his duration with the DARPA for developing the internet.
2. Things are different now from back then because we have a government that can track down anyone. No ones business is private in this century. One more thing that has changed is the audience and it's size. Now, there probably isn't an exact number on how many people the internet had attracted then, or today, but the size is noticeably larger. About 1/3 of the world uses the internet today. In 2000, only around 361 million used the internet daily. Most likely, that number is significantly smaller in the 1900's. Back then, computers were expensive, and more so, the internet, making it much harder to have access. Today, there are numerous ways to gain internet access, and plenty of easy ways too. Kids as young as even around 7-8, know how to navigate the internet fluently and know how to use it.

I chose this because I like food and I like how it was presented out. I feel as if all food websites should be represented like this
Roger L. Easton was int he inventor of the GPS in 1973. This caused huge improvments to the everyday citizens living in a rapidly developing electronic world. One difference that we have today as opposed to pre-interent is the ability to know where anyone is at anytime, using impressive technologies in space. The program I used in reddit was the meteorshowers.org/. Tis program lets you have a real visual of meteors orbiting through space.
